Extremely Peaceful, 2026
The mackerel is a swift, pelagic fish—meaning it lives in the open ocean. Its back shimmers in iridescent blue-green shades and features striking, dark, vertical stripes—reminiscent of a tiger—or wavy patterns that fade toward its silvery-white belly. This appearance is what always facinated me with this type of fish, like reflections of all the oceans visual facets, while simultaneously concealing the dangers that lurk within it—just beneath the fish’s skin. It shimmers like a gemstone or marble, surface upon surface stacked on to each other. As soon as light strikes the skin, each layer seems to shine through the others
Those four mackerels were caught in the atlantic. I bought them, brought them home, quickly sketched them, bathed my eyes in their stunning beauty, photographed them, and finally prepared and ate them together with my family. They tasted fantastic. The mackerel is a predator to other fish. One that seems extremely peaceful to us humans, it's biggest predator.
The mandarin on the right is not an accident.

I spotted this object in one of my neighbors' windows. The materiality of its surface prompted me to take a photograph. The reflections captivated me, drawing me in completely. I want to recreate this effect—this specific moment—through painting. Removed from its context, the object raises questions. I don’t even know if it is an egg; that was simply the first term that came to mind. What lies hidden inside the egg? What kind of creature did it come from? How big is it? What is its surface made of?
